Last night, the interview with Andy Stearns on CR Show is simply an effort of Bloomberg News to survey the opinion of different quarter of the society toward Obama Administration.
What I find interesting and rarely come across in mainstream media is the repudiation of this man who is the president of the International Service Worker Union, toward the argument that CEO deserts the exorbitant pay for the works they had done to bring in profit for the share holders.
The counter argument is usually known in other occasion as a criticism of the current CEO reward system. It is the 100s and 1000s of multiple of wages and salaries of worker on the floor. What they try to ignore on purpose is that the fact that they would demand the same kind of outrageous payment when they screwed up a company.
This is the connecting of this fact with the argument that CEO desert this kind of employment contract because they had helped a company thrives is an absolute myth and mendacity.
Pointing out the ways share holders cast their proxy vote during a board election and share holder meeting is another good example for debunking the myth the secret ballot is a must for a democratic and fair system. This is the same practice that labor union embrace for union forming voting.
The business owner side spin doctors would say this is undemocratic practice on the labor union. They would keep their mouth shut on the same practice on the employers and CEO side.
What is reflecting on the program is that the program host really is not on the ball regarding to this kind of issue.
Vision of this labor union president is a fully funded pension system for workers and a universal healthcare system albeit run by private sector. The other vision is an affordable college education for kids of the workers.
He likes the German model of public private partnership model in business and economic. He really does care about the French system which is more leaning toward public owned enterprise system. The bottom line is that the interest of the workers must be protected and supported one way or the other.
I had read a book on labor union written by another spin doctor in the academic world criticizing the failure of the current labor union movement and Andy Stearns had been implicated by the author as non effective.
However, he revealed during last night interview that janitors in NYC are paid with a $26/hour wage regardless of the Hotel or apartment they work for in NYC. This is the only thing he bragged about as the achievement of labor union under his leadership.
He also like to attack the CEO of Wal-Mart as a way to influence the public opinion and behavior in supporting their demand of forming union in Wal-Mart. This is the second largest Fortune 500 company in US according to the latest ranking in USAToday.
